The Role:
You will be the senior lawyer for the Council, supporting it’s education function including all matters relating to Education, with a caseload of SEND Tribunal (including advocacy) and all matters relating to schools. You will manage the legal service arrangements for legal advice and support for schools and all matters relating to admission appeals and exclusions, including independent appeal panels. As well as managing the team dealing with education and supporting schools, you will also manage other areas of the team, dealing with litigation and deputise where required for the Group Lawyer.
You will provide and oversee the provision of advice to the Council’s officers, councillors and committees and assist the management team in ensuring the provision of high quality, cost effective and innovative legal services and corporate governance.
Who we are looking for:
The ideal candidate for this role will be a qualified barrister, solicitor or legal executive with commercial awareness and an excellent knowledge of education law. You will be able to demonstrate management experience and knowledge of areas outside of education dealt with by the corporate legal team.
