About this opportunity
We are looking to recruit a new Assistant Infrastructure Planning Officer to work as part of the council's Sustainable Transport and Highways service. Our work contributes to improving connectivity and resilience in line with our Local Transport Plan, the Cumbria Transport Infrastructure Plan, and is a key enabler to make sure Westmorland and Furness is a great place to live, work and thrive.
Our team’s exciting programme of work includes: prioritising and developing transport proposals for development and delivery; transport appraisal and impacts assessment; supporting spatial strategy and a new Local Plan; shaping transport policies and projects to support economic growth and the environment; and technical advice on major cross-discipline projects, including the council’s groundbreaking work as part of Team Barrow.
As an Assistant Infrastructure Planning Officer, you will be involved in supporting the team on projects to identify and develop infrastructure and strategies. As this is a career-grade role, you will also have the opportunity to undertake a Level 6 (degree-level) apprenticeship, leading to a BSc in Transport Planning. As you successfully progress through your apprenticeship and gain knowledge, skills and experience, you will move into a more senior role in the team with an associated increase in salary.
Who we are looking for…
We are looking for people who have three A-levels (or equivalent) and be able to demonstrate competency in maths, English and IT. Some experience or knowledge of sustainable transport would be useful, but not essential; this could include lived experience of some of the challenges surrounding travel and transport in a rural area like Westmorland and Furness.
