About this opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated, independent thinker to join the School Transport Team as a Commissioning Assistant in the Home to School Transport Team. This is a great opening allowing you to develop your career and work alongside others who are passionate about making a difference and ensuring 5,000+ mainstream and SEND pupils get to school every day in Cumberland Council area.

We are looking for a full-time Commissioning Assistant to join the Team. It is a busy team responsible for the commissioning, procurement, and subsequent contract management of around 500 mainstream school, SEND and PRU transport routes.
The workload is varied and could see you assessing home to school transport applications, assisting in the tendering of routes, preparing contract documentation, raising purchase orders, processing clearances for drivers & passenger assistants, issuing driver clearance badges or even getting out of the office and undertaking route inspections.
Key responsibilities
The Ideal should have strong interpersonal skills, being able to deal with difficult and sensitive issues both by telephone and email, with parents/carers, transport operators and schools. You must have the ability to challenge and question whilst maintaining a ‘can do’ attitude with a determination to seek solutions. To undertake this role effectively you will be able to ensure attention to detail and accuracy in your work, even when under pressure, and to be confident to learn to use a range of computer systems (training will be given).
