About this opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for you to join Westmorland and Furness Council as a Group Accountant. Our Group Accountants provide strategic support to the full range of Council services; this role will support to the Council’s Adult Social Care Directorate.
The Adult Social Care Sector is experiencing a period of unprecedented change, where people are living longer resulting in growth in demand for social care services. The Council aim to promote independence by enabling people to stay healthier and live in their homes and communities for longer. Linking financial data with performance information, and with a naturally enquiring mind, you will play an important role in supporting the service to build a sustainable model for delivering adult social care services.
In this role you will provide professional financial services using a business partnering approach to support the full budget cycle of budget development, including developing financial business cases for budget proposals; budget monitoring, including the ongoing review of delivery of savings; and financial year end.
You will manage a team responsible for providing a mixture of technical, operational and strategic advice. This ensures that managers across the organisation can effectively manage their budgets, make effective decisions and develop and deliver transformational change projects. You will also ensure that the financial systems and accounting information is robust.
Who are we looking for
We are looking for an ambitious and driven qualified Accountant, with the drive and commitment to support the Council move towards its objective of becoming Financially Sustainable. You will have an extensive practical knowledge and technical background in budget preparation, monitoring and year end accounting practices whilst recent experience of Local Government and particularly Adult Services are desirable, they are not essential.
Strong people management skills are required as this role is responsible for the management, motivation and development of staff within the Finance Team in order to secure efficient performance of duties. You will be responsible for your own personal and professional development.
