About this opportunity
The Health & Wellbeing Team are looking to recruit a Health and Wellbeing Coach to work across the South Lakeland area for Westmorland and Furness Council. The aim is to support and coach people with multiple and complex needs to make positive changes to their lives and to work alongside people to adopt behaviour and lifestyle changes, that will help improve their overall health and wellbeing and to reduce health inequalities.
Within the role, you will need to able to adopt a coaching approach and have the personal skills to build trusting and authentic relationships with individuals in our community. You will work in a non-directive style, help people to identify their aspirations and goals, motivate them to make changes, whilst also understanding and reducing any barriers to change. You will work closely with the NHS, particularly with the community mental health team, internal colleagues, and community partners, and support the people we work with to access the resources within our communities.
Who we are looking for?
The successful candidate will be capable of coaching individuals to take meaningful action on factors that influence their health and wellbeing, including lifestyle, relationships, personal interests, and home life. They will work collaboratively with people to reduce health inequalities by understanding the root causes of inequality and identifying sustainable ways to support lasting change. The role also involves helping individuals build independence and resilience to better handle future crises. A key part of the role is understanding and constructively challenging behaviours, raising awareness, and fostering personal responsibility. The candidate will actively engage with local communities and social networks, while also encouraging those they support to connect with each other and form self-led community or social groups. Health & Wellbeing Coaches are required to hold a Level 6 Advanced Diploma in Health Coaching or an equivalent qualification, along with substantial experience in coaching vulnerable individuals with multiple and complex needs.
