An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Finance Directorate of Cumbria County Council. The purpose of the role is to lead the Accountancy and Financial Planning team reporting directly to the Director of Finance (Section 151 Officer).
The successful postholder will be responsible for delivery of service objectives which include the production of the Council's Annual Budget (turnover c.GBP 800m) and Statutory Accounts, ensuring the provision of high quality financial advice to Directorates and Elected Members and liaising with external stakeholders as appropriate, including, but not exclusively, Health partners, the Local Enterprise Partnership, and external audit.
The postholder will be a pivotal member of the Finance Management Team and will contribute to the continual improvement of the Service and the Council's transformational change programme, inspiring their team's performance in support of the Council's new ways of working, its commitment to long term financial sustainability and the achievement of the Council Plan.
The postholder will also be at the heart of the Council's governance arrangements as the role includes the responsibility to act as Deputy Section 151 Officer for the County Council as and when required.
The ideal candidate will be CCAB qualified with substantial senior management experience and technical accounting knowledge of local government finance.
